Inequalities and power struggles in Brazil will be addressed in a public workshop to be held June 9, 2017, at the Institute of Latin American Studies, Freie Universität Berlin. Selected scholars from Brazil and Germany will analyze the current political struggles in Brazil as expressions of broader conflicts. The workshop will be held in English. It is open to the public, admission is free, and advance registration is not necessary.

"The media have dealt with the current crisis in Brazil mainly as a consequence of corruption scandals," says Sérgio Costa, a sociologist at the Institute of Latin American Studies (LAI), Freie Universität. In doing so, they ignored connections between political changes and conflicts of distribution. In order to explore the current crisis from different perspectives, the organizers, Dr. Renata Motta, a sociologist at LAI, Sérgio Costa, and the students in a master’s course, invited scholars from various disciplines including political philosophy, sociology, economics, gender studies, cultural studies, law, and environmental anthropology.
