Game of Thrones from a Historical Scholarly Perspective
Public courses in German and English examine the American television series at the Friedrich Meinecke Institute of History, Freie Universität Berlin. No 009/2020 from Jan 10, 2020 Freie Universität Berlin students will study the depiction of the Middle Ages in the American television show Game of Thrones in two public courses. The courses, offered through the Friedrich Meinecke Institute, will focus on specific topics like clothing, living conditions, social and political hierarchies, religion and legends, as well as warfare. Participants will also explore the question of how films and television shows like Game of Thrones shape contemporary ideas about the Middle Ages. The course in German takes place Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and runs until February 12. The course is part of the Bachelor's degree program in history. The English course is on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. and runs until February 11.
