In its recently adopted Strategic Development Goals, TU Ilmenau commits to "a strong concept of sustainability that gives top priority to the protection of the natural foundations of life, because a good life for all’is only possible if our natural foundations of life are preserved and social peace is ensured on this basis". A high standard - but what is the university doing to live up to it? And what does this commitment mean in everyday life at the university? What research is carried out at the university to achieve these goals? What role does sustainability play in the teaching of the various degree courses? And the students - are they interested in sustainability issues and are they committed to making the university more sustainable?
Professor Jens Wolling, Head of the Group for Media Research and Political Communication at TU Ilmenau, will address these questions in his lecture as part of the TU Ilmenau Bürgercampus. He also asks how the university discusses the topic of sustainability internally so that sustainability criteria are taken into account in decision-making in all’areas. Finally, Prof. Wolling explains who the university works with on sustainability issues in Thuringia, Germany and internationally and what the university is doing to communicate the results of its research on sustainability and its efforts towards a sustainable community.
