English-language panel discussion series ÜBerlin Talks" at Freie Universität Berlin, broadcast live on November 18, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. (Central European time)

On Thursday, November 18, Freie Universität Berlin’s international short-term study programs FU-BEST (European Studies) and FUBiS (International Summer and Winter University) will present an online panel discussion on "Gender and the Covid-19 Pandemic: Lessons Learned?" The discussion will feature four experts, whose research and publications specifically address the topic of gender in politics, society, and economics. The event will be live-streamed via Webex, and viewers are invited to participate virtually via the chat function. The event will be held in English.

What impact has the pandemic had on gender roles and relationships? Do gender differences come to light when we examine how the pandemic was handled, particularly with regard to its practical and psychological ramifications? When we look at issues of political leadership during the pandemic, do we encounter gender-related factors in public crisis management in Germany and beyond? In evaluating the role of the media and communication during the pandemic, are we able to detect gender bias? Is it possible to identify gender-based differences in the care professions - for example, with regard to working conditions and appreciation of this type of work - when we examine developments before and during the pandemic? What consequences will the pandemic have on the distribution of roles and responsibilities at work and within the family? These and other questions will be the topic of debate at the panel discussion.
