Emotions in a Public Context
3rd International Conference of the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies at Freie Universität, May 3 to 5, 2018. No 082/2018 from Apr 27, 2018 Emotions in a public context - whether in political speeches, theatre performances, entries in social media, at concerts, or at court - are the focus of the 3rd international conference of the Collaborative Research Center Affective Societies at Freie Universität from May 3 to 5, 2018. As part of the English-language conference on Public Emotions, Israeli sociologist Eva Illouz will hold a lecture on "Populist Politics and Emotions." It will take place May 5 at 2 p.m. in Lecture Hall 1b, Habelschwerdter Allee 45. The lecture is public, and admission is free. The conference is being organized by Doris Kolesch, Freie Universität Berlin, and Hubert Knoblauch, Technische Universität Berlin. Emotions displayed in such diverse public settings as television shows, sports events, or religious ceremonies are heterogeneous and in many ways difficult to compare. One thing these social and cultural phenomena have in common is that they need an audience.
