' 399/2016 from Nov 16, 2016 An international symposium to be held on December 1 and 2, 2016, at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Freie Universität Berlin, will address conflicts over land. Researchers from Europe, Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, the United States, and Canada will present their research on various regions of the world and discuss theoretical approaches. The event is public, but advance registration is requested via the online portal. Global dynamics such as the growing demand for commodities or the financial and food price crises have led to a sharp price increase in agricultural products and mining products. These global dynamics together with national policy and legal reforms have provoked large and rapid land use changes for agro-industrial and mining purposes worldwide. Land and resources are central to social power and belonging, human (re)production, political control, environmental systems and cultural representation.
