TU Ilmenau start-up project successful in iHUB pitch

- EN - DE
At this year’s iHUB pitch of the InSignA High-Performance Center - Intelligent Signal Analysis and Assistance Systems, more than 550,000 euros of research budget were awarded to five teams. One of the winning projects is a start-up team from TU Ilmenau.

A total of twelve teams presented their ideas from the fields of sensor technology, digitalization, signal analysis and assistance systems to a jury made up of representatives from science, industry, state companies and investors. The Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Rural Areas provides the funding as part of the Thuringian Innovation Hubs and thus targeted support for technology-oriented start-up and research projects.

The Ilmenau team "Liquid Mirror" led by the two doctoral students at TU Ilmenau, Johannes Leineweber and Juan Sebastian Fischer Calderón, has been awarded for its idea for cost-efficient monitoring of large-format nanoprecision optics. The aim is to make high-precision interferometric measurement methods more economical with the help of MEMS-based multiplexing. Together with IMMS GmbH, the technical feasibility is now to be investigated further.

In addition to the TU project, four other projects received awards:
  • HyCPower GmbH from Luisenthal is developing a high-temperature membrane solution for more efficient hydrogen production from biogas.
  • Cucumber Company GmbH from Chemnitz is working on a scalable wireless audio assistance system for so-called silent rehearsals and silent live formats.
  • Kites for Future from Jena is pursuing the development of a reliable radio interface for aircraft wind turbines.
  • Alangu GmbH from Cologne is developing an extended toolkit for the automated translation of spoken and written content into German sign language.

InSignA as a strong research partnership

The InSignA High-Performance Center - Intelligent Signal Analysis and Assistance Systems combines the expertise of several Fraunhofer Institutes, the IMMS and seven research groups at Tu Ilmenau. Together, they support the award-winning teams with funded research work, feasibility studies and prototype development.

In particular, TU Ilmenau is contributing its expertise in radio technologies, signal processing, measurement technology, image processing and intelligent assistance systems. This close integration of university research and non-university partners gives the winning teams access to highly specialized infrastructure and scientific support.

With the iHUB pitch, InSignA has developed into an established format for the promotion of technology-oriented innovations since 2022 - with growing resonance beyond Thuringia.
