Siemens is to build a new research center at the high-tech campus run by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garching. Over 100 Siemens researchers will work alongside TUM scientists, CEO Joe Kaeser announced on Tuesday. The focus of this cooperative initiative will be on robotics/autonomous systems and IT security. The new research building will be located next to the newly erected TUM Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Fraunhofer Institute. "This historic step adds a new dimension to the successful collaborative culture that has developed between Siemens AG and the university over a period of decades," says TUM President Prof. Wolfgang A. Herrmann after the company press conference. "It will offer particular benefits to our future generations of researchers, who will have an early opportunity to experience first-hand the interplay between education, basic research and applied research." - "We look forward to even closer ties with academic research," explains Joe Kaeser, CEO of Siemens AG. "We want to connect our researchers with top talent from the innovation game," adds Prof. Siegfried Russwurm, Siemens CTO.
