German Research Foundation Funds New Research Unit at Freie Universität Berlin
Jens Eisert Leads New Group to Study Quantum Thermodynamics. No 178/2018 from Jul 04, 2018 At Freie Universität a new Research Unit will be funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). The Research Unit will study "Thermal Machines in the Quantum World." The spokesperson is Jens Eisert at the Department of Physics. The new group is one of five newly approved Research Units. The scientists working in the new research group are investigating whether so-called quantum machines can be more efficient than traditional machines. They want to explore the conceptual limits of quantum thermodynamics and create different platforms that can exploit quantum properties. If experimental evidence proves that the theoretically predicted effects also occur in practice, it could contribute to the development of new cooling techniques.
