Large trees are particularly affected by tree death. This was the finding of an international team of researchers with TUM participation in a study (Image: Rupert Seidl / TUM) - Globally, forests are increasingly under pressure. Climatic extremes such as heat and drought are major stress factors for them. A study in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and published in Science is examining, how global change may affect forests in the future. The researchers present potential scenarios of future forest development and thereby offer important information for forest policy and management. The record-heat summers of 2018 and 2019 have done massive damage to the forests of Central Europe. In Germany alone, more than 490,000 acres of forest died.
