How do patents and standards interact? How do these concepts interact? What significance do they have for innovation and competitiveness? PATINFO2025 addresses the central question of whether patents and standards are mutually exclusive or whether there may even be fruitful interactions. To ensure that patent and standardization systems are compatible, all parties involved in the development of standards are obliged to disclose intellectual property rights - in particular so-called standard-essential patents, i.e. patents that could be relevant for the implementation of the standard in question. Licenses to these patents should be offered on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms. For example, this system ensures that Android phones can also communicate with iPhones.
PATINFO2025 - the international colloquium on patent information and industrial property protection
To discuss these questions, experts from research, industry, patent offices, law firms and the information sector will come together in Ilmenau’s Festhalle from May 21 to 23, 2025 at PATINFO2025, TU Ilmenau’s 47th international colloquium on patent information and industrial property protection. In a series of short presentations and an exhibition by around 30 companies, software providers and information service providers will present their latest developments in IP data, software and services. A free workshop program offers participants the opportunity to acquire the latest knowledge and skills on the subject. At this year’s PATINFO, participants will also once again discuss the topics of trademarks and designs, evaluation and exploitation of IP rights as well as patent research and analysis.Organized by PATON Landespatentzentrum Thüringen at TU Ilmenau, PATINFO is the largest specialist conference of its kind in Germany - an ideal forum for the exchange of experience between public, private and commercial providers and users of patents, trademarks and designs.
