Professor Kai-Uwe Sattler was re-elected as President of Technische Universität Ilmenau for a further six-year term of office at the University Assembly on February 3. Prof. Sattler will thus continue to lead the university and represent the TU Ilmenau both internally and externally. Afterhe was first elected President of TU Ilmenau in December 2020, this is now his second regular term of office.Prof. Sattler is currently also Chairman of the Thuringian Conference of State Presidents, the association of the ten state universities in Thuringia.
According to the Thuringian Higher Education Act, the president is elected by the university’s university assembly, which is made up of the voting members of the university senate, the external university council members and a representative of the responsible ministry. The President’s term of office is six years.
With a view to the future challenges facing TU Ilmenau and the higher education system in the Free State of Thuringia, the University Assembly praised Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler’s commitment to strengthening research, internationalization and academic excellence when electing him. The Chairman of the University Council of TU Ilmenau, the Rector of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Professor Jens Strackeljan, had submitted the University Council’s proposal to the University Assembly to elect Prof. Sattler for a further term of office. Strackeljan emphasized with appreciation that he had decisively shaped the strategic direction of the university in research, teaching and transfer during his first term of office: "Despite difficult conditions, the Presidential Board made important decisions and provided forward-looking impetus. Kai-Uwe Sattler now has the opportunity to fully implement the strategy in the coming years. He enjoys our full confidence in this."
With his re-election, Prof. Sattler can now continue his work for the period 2027 to 2033. The 57-year-old sees his main task as further developing TU Ilmenau in a dynamic environment in terms of both higher education policy and social policy: "I see the re-election as recognition of the work of the entire Presidential Board, but also as a mandate to further strengthen TU Ilmenau as an internationally recognized research and study location through a clear profile and efficient structures."
