With a public ceremony the University is facing up to its responsibility for its collection holdings With a public ceremony at the University of Jena on Thursday, 10 February, the bones of three ancestors (iwi kupuna in the indigenous language) will be handed over to a delegation of descendants from Hawai'i. The iwi kupuna into the possession of the University in the 19th century and are to be reburied in Hawai'i. The Hawaiian delegation will visit other places in Germany and Austria beforehand and afterwards to collect iwi kupuna as well as ritual burial objects that reached Europe illegally. The public part of the ceremony will take place in English on 10 February, at 4 p.m, in the auditorium of the main building of the University.
