An international symposium entitled Videographic Criticism: Aesthetics and Methods of the Video Essay to be held June 21 in the ACUD-Kino in Berlin will focus on videographic approaches to film and media research. The attendees will explore various approaches to videographic work and exchange ideas about their preferred aesthetics and methods for producing video essays. They will also discuss the potential for this form in scholarship, teaching, and forms of public engagement. The symposium is being organized by cultural studies scholar Dr. Kathleen Loock at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. The event is public, and admission is free. The presentations will be in English.
Video essays use audiovisual material in a unique way to convey their arguments with newly arranged film clips and commentaries. Participants of the symposium will present their current projects and discuss the potential and limitations of videographic work.
