The University Hospital Bonn (UKB) was established as an independent institution under public law on 1 January 2001. It thus took the place of the previous medical institutions of the university. The UKB assumes tasks in patient care, including high-performance medicine, and in public health care. In addition, it ensures the connection of patient care with the areas of research and teaching at the Medical Faculty of the University of Bonn. With around 32 clinics and 26 institutes as well as 8,000 employees, the UKB is one of the largest employers in Bonn. Every year, 350,000 outpatients, 50,000 inpatients and 30,000 emergency patients are treated at the UKB.
