The exhibition "Surreal Art" in the University Library of the TU Ilmenau shows paintings by the painter Jochen Walter from Suhl. The self-taught artist is exhibiting for the fifth time at the TU Ilmenau, this time with works in the style of surrealism, i.e. fantastic or dreamlike motifs. The 73-year-old The 73-year-old has selected pictures that are also of interest to young people, the university’s students. The exhibition is open Mondays to Saturdays from July 14 to September 18 and admission is free.

Jochen Walter has been creating paintings for 50 years now. The self-taught artist not only works in various techniques, he has also tried his hand at different art styles, including surrealism. With its fifth exhibition, the University Library of the TU Ilmenau is giving visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of surrealism. "Surrealism" literally means "above realism", whereby painterly means of expression are dreamlike, unconscious, absurd and fantastic.

The 73-year-old artist from Suhl has selected 16 pictures for the "Surreal Art" exhibition in the university library at Ilmenau Technical University, which also appeal to young people, the university’s students. His works are inspired by everyday situations or phenomena from nature, but also by current or past political events. Jochen Walter believes that exhibitions are necessary in order to gain access to people: "It is only here that the works of art come to life, without the viewer the picture does not reveal itself".
