The Maser lab at Saarland University (UdS) has an opening for a PhD candidate to develop a miniaturised chip-scale . The candidate will represent a synergetic link between natural and applied science, translating . The UdS Maser lab has expertise in studying and characterising room-temperature solid-state masers, within the . A miniaturisation into a hand-held device relies on this deep . A novel integrated maser device has great potential applications in sensing, communication, timekeeping and quantum technologies.
Translating the bulky maser laboratory experiment onto a chip-scale platform will be conducted in close collaboration . There, a chip-scale microwave resonator circuit will be developed and optimised for the use with two maser gain media, pentacene doped p-terphenyl and NV-centres . The characterisation methodology will be developed, feeding into the creation of a prototype device.

Job requirements and responsibilities:
  • Characterisation of novel chip-scale maser devices, based on integrated circuits o Perform experiments using steady-state microwave spectroscopy, as well as time-resolved spectroscopy methods o Design and development of new experimental setups for characterisation o Perform data analysis and simulations to complement experimental work o Help produce independent and original research within the UdS Maser lab, submit publications to peer-reviewed journals o Support overseeing masters/bachelor students o Contribute to the induction of other research staff and students

Your academic qualifications:
  • Completed scientific university studies in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or equivalent (M.Sc.) o Language skills (according to GER): English B2/C1

The successful candidate will also be expected to:
