The new Chancellor of the TU Ilmenau, Wolfgang Ramsteck
Dr. Wolfgang Ramsteck has just been elected as the new Chancellor by the University Assembly of the Ilmenau University of Technology. Dr. Ramsteck, currently Chancellor of Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences, will - subject to appointment by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society - succeed Dennys Klein this autumn, whose eight-year term of office ends on September 21. As Chancellor, the economics graduate is responsible for the budget and for personnel, financial, property and legal matters of the university. The Chancellor is a member of the Presidential Board, heads the administration and is the superior of the non-academic staff.

Born in Franconia, Dr. Wolfgang Ramsteck, 43, studied International Economics at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and at Örebro University in Sweden. He received his doctorate from FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg in 2010. After professional positions at the University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt, among others, Dr. Ramsteck worked as Managing Director and Head of Administration of the then Department of Economics at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg since 2014. He has been Chancellor of Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences since 2018. Wolfgang Ramsteck is married and has three children.

In accordance with the Thuringian State Higher Education Act, the new Chancellor was elected by secret ballot by the University Assembly, which is formed by the Senate and the University Council of TU Ilmenau. Following the official advertisement for the position, a selection committee chaired by Prof. Jens Strackeljan drew up an election proposal from the large number of applications, which required the consent of the President. Before Dr. Wolfgang Ramsteck can officially take up his post, he still has to be appointed by the Ministry.
