According to the latest ranking of the magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE), the University of Münster is one of the 200 best universities worldwide. The ranking includes almost 1,400 universities across 92 countries - the University of Münster is ranked 189th.
The THE ranking is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In the areas of research, teaching and citations, which each account for 30 percent of the overall result, Münster University ranks among the top 25 percent of institutions listed worldwide. It's research strength is demonstrated in particular by its 15th place among German universities in terms of the number of citations.
The top positions are held by British and US universities in particular: Oxford University ranks first and the California Institute for Technology second this year. The best placed German university remains the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (ranked 32nd in the world) followed by the Technical University of Munich (43rd) and the University of Heidelberg (44th).
