One hundred students from the eleven member universities of the Una Europa alliance will be convening at Freie Universität Berlin from September 17 to 20, 2024

About one hundred students from the eleven universities that make up the Una Europa alliance will be meeting for the "Dis-/Assemble: Reinventing the University" international congress at Freie Universität Berlin from September 17 to 20, 2024. The four-day program will offer students the opportunity to discuss current topics in European higher education in different formats. The overarching theme of the event is the "University of the Future," a key focus of the Una Europa partner universities. The central questions that will be addressed include "being human in a digital world," the societal importance of universities, and future trends in higher education. The general public is welcome to attend certain events during the week, such as the Una Europa Fair at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in the Henry Ford Building, where different Una Europa initiatives will be presented as well as opportunities for international students and exchange programs at Freie Universität Berlin. This will be followed by a public discussion on "Re-Inventing the University of the Future: Una Europa as an Institution and an Expectation" in Lecture Hall C from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Students and instructors will talk about what it means to shape the future of higher education together as co-creators and the different expectations they have, with a focus on the importance of creativity. The discussion will be held by two students who are playing an active role in the Student Congress and two members of the Future UniLab, a think tank within Una Europa that produces innovative ideas for higher education, analyzes the alliance’s projects, and further develops central topics.

Una Europa is made up of Freie Universität Berlin, Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, University College Dublin/An Coláiste Ollscoile Baile Átha Cliath, University of Edinburgh, Helsingin yliopisto/Helsingfors universitet, Uniwersytet Jagiellonski w Krakowie, Universiteit Leiden, KU Leuven, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Universität Zürich. Five hundred thousand students in total attend these institutions. Members of the alliance of European universities draw on their collective strengths to create a truly European inter-university environment through innovative education, research, and international exchange. Una Europa was founded in 2018 and has received funding from the European Commission since 2019.

The Latin words veritas, justitia, and libertas, which frame the seal of Freie Universität Berlin, stand for the values that have defined the academic ethos of Freie Universität since its founding in December 1948.
