Shannon Cain current Picador Guest Professor for Literature

In the Summer Term of 2011, the Picador Chair for Literature at the Institute for American Studies University of Leipzig will be held by Shannon Cain. Between April and July 2011 she will be the Guest Professor and hold two classes.

Shannon Cain is a multiple award-winning fiction author. She lives in downtown Tucson, Arizona. After her MFA in 2005 from the Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, she published with Lisa Bowden Powder: Writing by Women in the Ranks, from Vietnam to Iraq (Kore Press, 2008). Her stories have been awarded the Pushcart Prize, the O. Henry Prize and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her short stories have appeared e.g. in "The Colorado Review" and "American Short Fiction". Her debut short story collection will be published this fall. Recently she is the winner of 2011 Drue Heinz Literature Prize Shannon Cain has taught fiction writing at the University of Arizona, Gotham Writers' Workshop, UCLA Extension, Arizona State University and as a private coach and workshop facilitator. Her current creative project is Tucson, the Novel: An Experiment in Literature and Civil Discourse.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION PICADOR GUEST PROFESSORSHIP FOR LITERATURE
The University of Leipzig has set up in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service and the Veranstaltungsforum der Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck the Picador Guest Professorship for Literature at the University of Leipzig aiming at conveying and critically reflecting on Anglo-American Literature. The Picador Guest Professorship is designed to promote the rich cultural heritage of the English language. Furthermore it should encourage students to experience literature in a more direct and active way than it is possible in seminars focusing on historical and theoretical knowledge.
