With an improvement of five places, Heidelberg University ranks among the "Top 50" universities worldwide in the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities. It jumps from 55th to 50th place, having already improved by 15 places in the previous year. Nationally, Ruperto Carola is one of the "Top Three" universities in Germany in this so-called Shanghai Ranking, behind Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (position 43 internationally) and Technical University of Munich (position 47 internationally).
