In an increasingly digital world, the topic of cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important in all’areas of life. In his lecture at the TU Ilmenau Bürgercampus, Steffen Nicolai, Head of Contract Research at the Cognitive Energy Systems department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Systems Technology in Ilmenau, will show what threats cyber attacks pose to everyone in their daily lives and how they can protect themselves when using the internet. He not only provides general rules of conduct for safe surfing on the Internet, but also very practical tips on recognizing phishing emails and protecting against identity theft.
In his presentation, Steffen Nicolai, who also heads the cyber security in the energy and water supply learning lab, will also shed light on the dangers to which critical infrastructures such as the energy and water supply are exposed through cyber attacks and how the operators of electricity and water networks can effectively protect themselves against them. Using various examples of real cyber attacks, he will describe how sophisticated and organized hacker groups are and what defence options are available.
