Party meeting place Platz der Göttinger Sieben

Dear students and staff of the University, for some weeks now, the Platz der Göttinger Sieben between the SUB and the ZHG has been increasingly used as a meeting place on weekends, most recently by up to 1,000 people at a time. As a University, we would like to offer our members and the citizens of Göttingen a stress-free opportunity to gather - after the months behind us. However, we are very concerned about the developments of the last few days: Yesterday, there were again physical confrontations, fireworks were set off and the coronavirus distance rules were disregarded. The police had to intervene several times and the medical emergency services had to be called. And despite the availability of rubbish containers and a toilet facility in the ZHG, which can be used throughout the night, the pollution in and around the square is also increasing dramatically. Please help us tonight, but also in the nights to come, to keep this meeting place a place for everyone to celebrate happily and loudly, but also responsibly and safely, and use your networks or your example to spread this message.
