A working culture which transcends the boundaries of natural sciences, medicine and the engineering sciences, avant-garde technologies and an inspiring space for new thinking in biological systems: This is the spirit of the new central institute "Center for Functional Protein Assemblies" (CPA) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Subsidized with 40 million euros from the German federal and Bavarian state governments, the new complex for interdisciplinary research opened its doors.

The highly diverse range of functionalities found in biological systems result from complex and dynamic protein interactions which go far beyond the functions of individual molecules in both qualitative and quantitative terms. ...
