Akie Abe, the Wife of the Japanese Prime Minister, Is Donating Books to the Campus Library of Freie Universität Berlin
No 217/2016 from Jun 20, 2016
The Institute of Japanese Studies at Freie Universität Berlin is receiving a gift of books from Akie Abe, the wife of the Japanese Prime Minister. The books, which were published between 2007 and 2016, are intended as materials for students of Japanese studies, as well as for other individuals interested in present-day Japan or who wish to learn Japanese. When the Japanese Prime Minister and his wife visited Germany shortly before the recent G7 Summit in Ise-Shima, Japan, they announced that his wife was donating these books to the Japanese studies department at Freie Universität Berlin. On June 22 there will be an official ceremony in the Campus Library, when the Japanese Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Takeshi Yagi, will present the books to Verena Blechinger-Talcott, a Japanese studies professor at Freie Universität Berlin, and Martin Lee, the head of the Campus Library. The event is public, and admission is free. Advance registration is requested via email to cosima.wagner [a] fu-berlin (p) de.
