For the beginning of the concert, orchestra director Pamela R. Mayorga Téllez has chosen the Overture in C major for orchestra by Fanny Hensel, born Mendelssohn, a work "con fuoco", with fire, with slow introduction. Afterwards the Academic Orchestra of the TU Ilmenau will play the Valse Triste (sad waltz), op. 44, one of the most famous works of the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The evening will conclude with the Symphony in C major by Georges Bizet, which the latter composed as a Bizet composed when he was a student at the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of only 17.
Traditionally, the New Year’s Concert of the TU Ilmenau is connected with the review of the past year by the president, Prof. Kai-Uwe Sattler, and his outlook on the coming year. He then bids farewell to the retiring professors and welcomes the newly appointed professors of the university.
