The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is launching two new bachelor’s and five new master’s programs in the 2020/21 winter semester. They include four new programs at Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability, one each at the new TUM Department of Aerospace and Geodesy and the TUM School of Life Sciences at the Weihenstephan campus, and a program offered jointly with the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, TUM has changed the application deadlines for the 2020/21 winter semester. The application deadlines for bachelor’s programs will be extended beyond July 15th, presumably until July 31st. The application deadline for master’s degrees has been extended until June 30th. The master’s program in Agricultural Biosciences at the TUM School of Life Sciences focuses on basic biological research for an efficient and sustainable agricultural production of crops and livestock species. Agricultural biosciences integrate molecular science, biochemistry, physiology, genetics and genomics as well as quantitative and computer-based approaches in an interdisciplinary agricultural sciences program. This combination of fields will enable graduates to drive innovation in the agricultural sector.
The bioeconomy refers to economic activity driving a macroeconomic structural transformation toward globally sustainable economic development. The Bioeconomy master’s program at TUM Campus Straubing combines contents from social and economic sciences, engineering and the natural sciences. To acquire the knowledge and skills to support transformation processes in the economy and society, students will gain an understanding of the processes involved and the participating actors and a comprehensive understanding of sustainability.
This degree program on Land Management and Geospatial Science inter-connects two scientific domains to train responsible professionals to manage the built environment. Graduates will deal with the technical aspects of site planning and spatial planning as well as the applicable planning laws, and make use of management skills in order to reconcile the needs, influence and decisions of various stakeholder groups.
The new master’s program ,,Technology of Biogenic Resources" at the TUM Campus Straubing is intended for students interested in the technical implementation of the bioeconomy and sustainability. Applications range from energy technology challenges such as the development of synthetic fuels to process engineering in such areas as bioplastics manufacturing.
Quantum sciences and technology have enormous potential for the development of future technologies in such areas as quantum computing, quantum sensing, quantum simulation, quantum materials and quantum cryptography, to name a few. This research field is grounded in a fundamental understanding of the principles of quantum mechanics, but also relies on developments in neighboring research areas such as mathematics, information technology, electrical engineering and chemistry. TUM and LMU have joined forces to establish the interdisciplinary master’s program ,,Quantum Science & Technology" . Students will benefit from the research environment provided by the Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST).
