Mourning and Gratitude

University of Bonn mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Elizabeth died today at the age of 96, surrounded by her family. In 1965, she spent some time at the University of Bonn as part of her visit to the city, the capital of West Germany at the time. She subsequently founded the Queen's Prize, which has been awarded at the start of every academic year since then in recognition of outstanding achievements in English studies. Commenting on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Rector of the University of Bonn, Dr. h.c. Michael Hoch, said: "The University of Bonn is mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. She headed the British royal family for over 70 years and guided the destiny of her country with unbelievable humility and endurance throughout her long reign. We at the University are especially grateful that Her Majesty paid us a visit in 1965 and established the Queen's Prize, which honors exceptional performances in English studies.
