The nationwide competition "Jugend forscht - Schüler experimentieren" is taking place under the motto "Make up your mind". Children, teenagers and young adults are encouraged to immerse themselves in the exciting world of science and research and turn their visions into reality.
The young researchers’ competition entries cover a wide range of topics: from a plant casting machine for holidaymakers and plastic made from potatoes to the construction and testing of a rocket nozzle.

Children and young people from elementary school, mainstream schools and grammar schools in Eisenach, Ilmenau, Naumburg, Neudietendorf, Ruhla and Saalfeld are taking part in the West Thuringia regional competition. After preparing individually or in teams for weeks or even months, the time has finally come on February 7: 91 pupils will present their 42 projects from the research areas of the world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology at the TU Ilmenau.
Before an expert jury evaluates the projects, the public can attend the presentations live and be inspired by the expertise and inventiveness of the young researchers. The winners of the seven regional competitions in Thuringia qualify for the state competition on April 9 in Jena. The grand national final will then take place from May 30 to June 2 in Heilbronn.
