Confucius Institute at Freie Universität Berlin to Host Open House on September 22, 2018

"China: Identity and Change" is the motto of this year’s Open House Day at the Confucius Institute at Freie Universität. Visitors can expect a varied program. You can experience artistic performances, learn more about the Chinese Beijing Opera and tea culture, and try hands-on workshops in Chinese calligraphy and language, as well as Chinese comic drawings (Manhua). The event is public, and admission is free.

The day will start with a kung fu show with lion dance. Later the Beijing opera performer and calligrapher Chen Ning will demonstrate a number of examples from various opera styles to show the historical change of the Beijing Opera and give a presentation on the development of Chinese calligraphy. The traditional tea ceremony is an expression of the history and aesthetics of Chinese tea culture. Two exhibits, Cai Yuanpei (1868-1940). Ein Leben für die Bildung and Pekingoper. Traum und Leben illustrate facets of China’s history, society, and culture.
