From 7-19 December 2022, the fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) will be held in Montreal, Canada. There, the member states are to set the course for dealing with biodiversity and ecosystems in the coming years. The new post-2020 global biodiversity framework (GBF) will replace the so-called 2011-2020 Aichi Targets and set the framework for global conservation policy.
The draft treaty under negotiation contains goals for action that are also the subject of various disciplines of biodiversity research. With their work, researchers at iDiv and other institutions including Leipzig University contribute significantly to the knowledge base that will enable the implementation of these goals. Some of these scientists have written personal statements to the negotiators from their professional point of view, which iDiv will publish daily during the conference at https://twitter.com/idiv and https://www.idiv.de/en/ .
