THE and Shanghai subject rankings
In two of the most highly respected international subject rankings, the Technical University of Munich (TUM) again achieved outstanding positions. In the THE World University Rankings by Subject, which assesses broad subject groups, TUM is ranked among the world’s top 25 in three areas. In the Global Rankings of Academic Subjects (Shanghai Rankings), which cover individual subjects, TUM is among the top 25 in four subjects and among the top 10 in remote sensing and medical technology.In the THE World University Rankings by Subject TUM achieved the following positions:

For the rankings compiled by the UK publication Times Higher Education (THE), scientists around the world are surveyed on the reputation of universities in research and teaching. In addition, the rankings incorporate data such as the number of publications per researcher, citations per publication, the teacher-student ratio, third-party funding raised from the private sector, patents and the degree of internationalization. These indicators are weighted according to the prevailing culture in the various subject areas. In the recently released main edition of the THE World University Rankings , TUM is number 30.
The Shanghai Rankings assess the research achievements of universities around the world based on the number of scientific papers published in important journals such as Nature and Science, the citation frequency of scientists, and the number of Nobel laureates and Fields Medal winners. In the latest main edition of the Shanghai Rankings, TUM is number 57.
