Flooding in Bavaria: High water in Thannhausen on June 2nd, 2024

Flooding and high water have caused devastating damage in Bavaria over the past few days. A state of emergency has been declared in some regions. If TUM employees are affected by this, they can be released from work under certain conditions, for example to secure their property or to deal with the consequences of the disaster.

The prolonged rainfall and the resulting flooding and high water levels in Bavaria have caused devastating damage in recent days. A state of emergency has been declared in some regions.

The following applies to TUM employees subject to the collective agreement and ministerial regulations for disaster situations:

  • For employees covered by collective agreements (tariff employees), time off work can be granted to the extent necessary with continued payment of remuneration for up to five working days. Public servants (Beamte) may be granted the same in the event they are unable to perform their duties.
  • The prerequisite is that the time was needed to secure one’s own property directly threatened by flooding, to deal with the consequences of the disaster and for other cases of temporary inability to work as a result of the acute disaster due to flooding. Securing property also includes the property of first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, children).
  • If you are/were affected and were prevented from working due to the declaration of a disaster by the relevant disaster control authority, you are not required to make up the lost working hours. You can request time off work or a leave of absence from HR. If you have any questions, the HR team will be happy to help you.
