Doctoral candidate at TU Ilmenau receives coveted Dr. Wilhelmy VDE Award

Dr. Liana Khamidullina, former doctoral candidate and current post-doctoral researcher at TU Ilmenau, is today (21.11.2024) receiving the coveted Dr. Wilhelmy VDE Award 2024 for her dissertation in electrical engineering and information technology. The award, endowed with 3,000 euros, is presented once a year by the Wilhelmy Foundation and the Association of Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies to outstanding young female engineers. The festive award ceremony will take place as part of the VDE Bayern Abends 2024 in Munich.

The Wilhelmy VDE Award is presented by the Wilhelmy Foundation and the VDE in recognition of outstanding dissertations by female engineers in electrical engineering and information technology. By promoting the positive image of female scientists, the foundation aims to combat the shortage of skilled workers in relevant professional fields. With a female quota of 19 percent in electrical engineering and information technology, the subject is at the bottom of the list of engineering courses. Role models such as the winners of the Wilhelmy VDE Award are very valuable in demonstrating that women can successfully pursue their careers in electrical engineering and help shape the future.

The winner from TU Ilmenau, Dr. Liana Khamidullina, received her doctorate from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in November 2023. Her dissertation, in which the Russian developed and analyzed new signal processing concepts, was awarded the grade "summa cum laude". The results of her groundbreaking doctoral thesis open up a wide range of interdisciplinary applications in the field of multi-antenna signal processing, for example in mobile communications, radar technology and biomedical signal processing. Liana Khamidullina has now been honored the Wilhelmy VDE Award 2024 for her outstanding scientific achievements in her thesis.
