The Game Technology Center (GTC), ETH Zürich, connects research and innovative industry applications to shape the visual and interactive entertainment and education technologies of tomorrow. To achieve this, the center provides a unique arrangement that allows a lively knowledge exchange between industry partners, experts, and students to work on game-based applications that leverage state-of-the-art technologies in computer graphics and computer vision. To join our interdisciplinary team, we offer a position as Junior Research Engineer.
We are currently working on a 36-month InnoSuisse project about Intelligent Content Creation Tools for Augmented and Virtual Reality, which will last for another 18 months. This project is a collaboration between ETH Zurich and Disney Research Studios, as well as two additional partners in South Korea. The main objective of the project is to create tools that leverage modern Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to facilitate the development of AR/VR applications and eventually push the envelope of what is possible in AR/VR experiences. The GTC is focusing on creating a framework that allows for easy authoring of intelligent virtual characters that inhabit XR worlds. Use cases for this framework are various, ranging from home entertainment to city-wide virtual guides and educational experiences. To reach this goal, we use and develop technologies in the areas of Scene Understanding, Navigation, Animation, Character Behavior, Story Technologies, as well as UX.
You will join a team consisting of a software engineer and a doctoral student, who work full-time on the project. You will also get support from the in-house digital artist and other members of the GTC. Your main responsibility will be to elaborate and discuss software design, implement new features in C# using the Unity game engine, write unit tests, review code changes and perform software releases, as well as contribute to and participate in the regular meetings between the collaborators. You will also co-supervise students who conduct their Bachelor or Master thesis within the scope of this project.
The initial employment contract will be for 12 months. Further contract extensions are possible. Starting date is as soon as possible.
