The Technical University of Munich is a German University of Excellence and a partner institution of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF). The Interfaculty Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene (MIH) invites applications for a DZIF-funded Independent Junior Research Group Leader in the field of lymphocyte (preferentially B cell) engineering for cell-based infection therapies.

We invite applications from outstanding young scientists to establish an independent Junior Research Group (JRG) which will be affiliated to the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Hygiene. The position will be funded by the DZIF (?url=www.dzif.de&module=jobs&id=177331" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=www.dzif.de&module=jobs&id=177331" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">www.dzif.de) for 5 years starting 1.1.2023, is integrated into the thematic translational unit (TTU) Infections of the Immunocompromised host, and includes funding for personnel and consumables.

Candidates should have reputation in at least one of the following research areas:

  • B cell or other lymphocyte engineering
  • adoptive cell therapy of infections of the immunocompromised host
  • ex vivo or in vivo genetic cell engineering
  • synthetic immunity
  • preclinical mouse models for cell therapies of infection
    The position is intended for a Ph.D. or M.D. The candidate should have 2 - 6 years of postdoctoral training and an outstanding track record of accomplishments.

The successful candidate will be expected to enhance basic and translational research within the highly interactive and interdisciplinary network of MIH and DZIF scientists and should also integrate into the TRR 338 LETSimmun (Lymphocyte Engineering for Therapeutic Synthetic Immunity; ?url=https%3A%2F%2Fletsimmun.de%2F&module=jobs&id=177331" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">?url=https%3A%2F%2Fletsimmun.de%2F&module=jobs&id=177331" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://letsimmun.de/).
Applicants should demonstrate initial success in research funding, excellent publications and leadership including experience in managing teams. Excellent communication, writing, and collaboration skills are essential. A good working knowledge of English is required.
