Project background


Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) –the ability of microbes to evolve and resist treatment- is rising globally. In September 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared AMR “the most urgent global risk”, and mandated its member states to establish national action plans against AMR, including reductions of antimicrobial use in the agricultural sector. This position is part of the project AVANT funded by the European Commission to explore alternative to veterinary antimicrobials in pig production.


Job description


We are looking for an enthusiast and quantitatively minded candidate to map antimicrobial use in pig husbandry in Europe before and after the potential adoption of alternatives to antimicrobials. You will combine geospatial models with livestock demography data, and results from clinical trials on alternatives to antibiotics. You will also bring your own research questions to develop in the broad field of veterinary epidemiology of AMR. This is a fixed term position for two 2 years with an anticipated start date between January and March 2022. The position is based at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. The successful candidate will join the Healthy Geography and Policy group led by Thomas Van Boeckel .


Your profile


We welcome applicants with:

(1) A background in veterinary epidemiology.

(2) Experience working with antimicrobial use data at the country- and farm-levels,

(3) Proven experience working in the programming language R

(4) fluency in French, although not required, is an asset (key field collaborators based in Britany) .
