Postdoc in the field of Bioinformatics; Genomics/Microbiomics of wild plant pathosystems

We are interested in understanding the diversity and evolution of pathogens and pathogen resistance in wild tomato. We study different populations from diverse and geographically differentiated tomato species to understand fundamental questions about fundamental processes underlying resistance.

We are looking for a postdoc to support bioinformatics tasks in the lab. Over the last years, we have collected several data sets on genomic diversity of both the plant and the pathogen and we have collected and amplicon sequenced microbiomes from several sites. The postdoc shall analyze some of these datasets thereby helping the group placing recent laboratory studies in a wider context.

Suitable candidates have PhD/doctoral degree in plant biology, microbiology, bioinformatics or related fields and a strong interest in understanding genetic diversity of plant pathosystems. The candidate has experience with either plant or pathogen genomics or plant microbiomes, ideally proven by means of a first author publication in one of the above-mentioned fields. The candidate should be able to work independently and has good English communication skills (oral and written).

The project will be carried out in the group of Dr. Remco Stam at the Chair of Phytopathology (Prof. Dr. Ralph Hückelhoven). The chair hosts several research groups studying molecular and evolutionary biology of plant pathogen interaction. In addition, we have several ongoing collaborations on campus (including the prestigious SFB924 project), and internationally, and direct access to computing clusters and state of the art technology for next generation sequencing.

Working hours for the position are flexible. The position can be taken up part time. The initial contract is 4 months with full time employment.

The Technical University of Munich wishes to increase the percentage of employed women. Women are therefore explicitly encouraged to apply. Handicapped persons with equivalent qualification will be given preference. The salary is according to German income level TV-L E13.

Please send your comprehensive application including a letter of motivation (1 page), your CV, certificates, list of publications, and names of 2 potential referees as a single pdf file by email to: stam wzw.tum.de
