Professorship (W 2):

Didactics of Informatics

with Tenure Track

for the Institute for Mathematics and Applied Informatics. The position is open from October 2020.

This professorship is one of five professorships the Stiftung Universität Hildesheim has been granted by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States. It specifically targets researchers at an early stage in their academic career.


Candidates are to represent the didactics as well as the discipline of informatics in its full spectrum of research and education in the university’s teacher training programmes. The core area of the professorship lies within the teacher training programme for informatics. The successful candidate should be prepared to design and convene pertinent professional and didactical courses as well as teaching placement programmes. Participation in curriculum development for different lines of study and the respective offerings for continuing and further education as well as in the service activities of the institute is expected. Parts of the service duties consists of cross-departmental involvement in, amongst others, the following focus areas: Informatics systems in cross-disciplinary tuition, digitalization of education, diversity-aware and inclusive education and informatics and society. Within the department, the service duties also include contributions to projects for enhancing student success in STEM programmes. Disciplinary service duties include the responsibility for selected courses in informatics for students of our bachelor and master programmes in mathematics, informatics, and information systems.


  • Doctoral dissertation and habilitation or equivalent postdoctoral lecture qualification in didactics of informatics or computer science
  • Pedagogical-didactical qualification as evidenced through practical experience
  • Social and leadership competencies
  • Experience in acquiring extra-mural funding is desirable
  • Sufficient proficiency in the German language has to be shown

The successful candidate approaches the dissemination of knowledge and skills within the field of informatics with enthusiasm and dedication and has the necessary knowledge and proficiency in didactics of informatics and informatics. Current research interest in the field of didactics of informatics have to be apparent. With regard to future research directions, potential ties to existing research areas in didactics of mathematics and/or in informatics within the University of Hildesheim are advantageous. In-depth familiarity with current areas of informatics (such as theoretical computer science, algorithms, distributed systems, computer networks, security, e-learning, media informatics or robotics) are beneficial.

Research projects with other academic partners, industry, institutions of learning, etc. are desirable.

The requirements for employment listed in § 25 ff. of the Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz (University Law of the State of Lower Saxony) apply. A final evaluation is held after five years. Dependent on the results, a decision will be reached as to whether the candidate will be given tenure at W 2 level. The tenure procedures are regulated in the Ordnung zur Gewährung einer Professur auf Lebenszeit im Tenure-Track Verfahren an der Universität Hildesheim.
