1 x 1,0 PostDoc position (f/m/d) The Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) at the University of Bremen offers a PostDoc position (f/m/d) for 2 years German pay scale: E13 TV-L (100%) / Beginning from the 1st of April 2020 The Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics branch of IUP (led by Prof. John P. Burrows) has internationally recognized expertise in atmospheric research. One key focus of research is the development and use of the satellite remote sensing of atmospheric constituents. The vacant research position addresses the study of the changing composition of the middle atmosphere (stratosphere, mesosphere) and is part of a German Research Foundation (DFG) supported Research Group, addressing the impact of volcanic aerosol on the stratosphere and its ozone layer. The candidate will use the limb viewing measurements of scattered solar electromagnetic radiation made by the Scanning Imaging Absorption SpectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY (SCIAMACHY) on ESA Envisat (2002-2012) and the Ozone Mapping Profiler Suite limb profiler, (OMPS-LP) on the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NP) to determine the characteristics of the stratospheric aerosol (vertical distribution of the extinction coefficient, particle mixing ratio, particle size distribution). This enables our knowledge of stratospheric aerosol properties, dynamic processes and its impact on stratospheric ozone to be improved. The project is embedded in international scientific initiatives to investigate the origins of the changing composition of the middle atmosphere. The time limitation is based on § 2 (1) WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, i.e. temporary science employment act). Therefore, candidates may only be considered who dispose of the respective scope of qualification periods according to § 2 (1) WissZeitVG Prerequisites for this position are:
The Institute of Environmental Physics provides a stimulating environment to work in that is well connected to the international research community. As a winner of the Total-E-Quality Science Award the University of Bremen strives for increasing the number of females in science. Applicants with a migrant status are particularly invited to apply for these positions. Handicapped applicants will be preferred for the case of their having equivalent qualifications to other applicants.
