Besetzungsdatum: ab sofort

Veröffentlichungsdatum: 12.07.2019

The Department of Wildlife Sciences at the Faculty of Forestry & Forest Ecology of the Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany, is looking to fill the position of a

Research Associate (’postdoc’, all genders welcome, w/m/d) in Landscape Genomics

The starting date of the position is negotiable. The initial contract will be for two years, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years (i.e., four years in total). Salary: 100% (currently 39.8 hrs/week) of pay grade 13 TV-L.

Position description
We are looking for a productive and creative individual who will conduct research in neutral and /or adaptive landscape genomics. The exact topic is flexible and will be developed collaboratively, but should be relevant for understanding gene flow and adaptation of terrestrial species in heterogeneous and variable environments. We are particularly interested in developing and applying landscape genomic approaches that
a) combine genomic, environmental and trait data;
b) help us understand eco-evolutionary meta-population dynamics; and
c) clarify the importance of functional connectivity for population viability. Potential research avenues include analysis of empirical data, method evaluation/development, meta-analysis, simulations or conceptual/theoretical work. We have outstanding computer facilities to support the analysis of big data sets and have secured funding to outsource laboratory analysis of empirical samples (e.g., generation of SNP or QTL data). Please note that field work can generally not be financed from our available funds, but Germany and the EU provide exciting funding opportunities for early-career scientists. Initiating own research proposals is encouraged and supported as part of this position. The position has a teaching duty of 6 credits (i.e., typically one course) per semester. Göttingen is a vibrant, highly international university town in central Germany with excellent quality of life, as it combines small town flair with the amenities of a large city. Your profile
  • above-average PhD degree in genetics, biology, ecology, bioinformatics or a related discipline, with appropriate master’s degree
  • strong analytical and conceptual capabilities
  • excellent knowledge of concepts and tools in landscape genetics/genomics
  • proven track-record of successful research output, i.e., several papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • programming skills are an asset, especially within program R
  • previous postdoc experience is an asset, as is previous experience in successful grant-writing
  • high motivation and creativity
  • well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively as a member of a research team
