The Swiss Competence Center for Energy Research - Efficient Technologies and Systems for Mobility (SCCER Mobility) aims at developing the knowledge and technologies essential for the transition from the current fossil fuel based transportation system to a sustainable one, featuring minimal CO2 output, primary energy demand as well as virtually zero-pollutant emissions. The SCCER Mobility is in operation since 2014 with a clear focus on developing and testing new technological concepts. From 2017 onwards, we continue the established activities, but also focus on integrating competencies across different research fields along with transferring generated knowledge and technologies to other sectors. Additionally from 2019 onwards, the network has been expanded to address projects at the interface of digitalization and mobility. The integration of different competencies is being promoted through cross-capacity projects as well as through close interaction with stakeholders from industry, transportation service providers and public authorities. Since 2018, the SCCER Mobility has initiated the Learning Lab - Future Transport Systems, as an integrative platform to bring together all research groups and commercial partners, and this position will be part thereof.

Postdoc / Scientific Collaborator in Future Impact of Digitalization on Mobility (80-100%)

Your responsibilities are to identify potential risks and opportunities associated with increased "digitalization" of the transportation sector (system, vehicles and decision making process) to the transportation related emissions and the sector energy consumption in Switzerland; analyze the current research portfolio on digitalization topics within SCCER mobility, support establishing adequate synergies and identify important gaps; investigate the synergies with other running projects in the Learning Lab, including the decarbonization of freight transportation in Switzerland, and collaborate in joint research projects.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in an ICT-related field (including informatics) or transport technologies, preferably but not restricted to, management (with experience in digital strategy or digital transformation) and environmental engineering. Applicants with a master’s degree in related fields with exceptional performance will be considered for a scientific collaborator position. In particular, you have adequate background to analyze digitalization related projects within a broad research portfolio and with desk research on the topic, or you have previously acquired the skillset required for this research in relation with the current major research and developments in the field. You have strong organizational and communication skills to gather information from colleague researchers about their field and understand their contribution to the future mobility system. You should also contribute to project documentation, presentation of the outputs and writing executive reports as well as scientific publications. You have a background or at least a strong interest in the energy/mobility sector and on the impact of digitalization on the environment, and the transportation systems as a whole. Fluency in English is mandatory and fluency in German is a plus.

The position is within the Leaning Lab and a project running until 31st December 2020, and to be filled as early as possible.
