About the Research Group

Research at the Chair of Societal Transition and Circular Economy aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the emergence and potential pathways of a circular economy in bio-based sectors in Europe and beyond. To achieve integrated insights into political, economic, and societal change processes, the group combines perspectives from political science, sociology, economics, and industrial ecology. It is located in an exciting international network of scholars from diverse disciplines.

About the Job

The Postdoctoral Researcher’s primary task is to advance our understanding of discourses related to a circular economy across bio-economy sectors in Europe.

This task will involve case study research and quantitative assessments of industry sectors (e.g. on supply chains developing around food waste or wood/paper packaging). In particular, the Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct empirical research, e.g. collecting and analyzing interviews, policy documents, social network and observation data. This research will involve travelling within Europe. Theoretically, the candidate will apply the Discursive Agency Approach, which places a particular emphasis on the role of actors in the creation of discourses. Based on the empirical results, the candidate will prepare academic papers that deepen and enhance the approach or align with industrial ecology knowledge on resource flows and environmental impacts of circular economy initiatives (generated by other group members). In the latter task, the Postdoctoral Researcher will cooperate closely with the head of the research group.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be given the opportunity to participate in the supervision of BSc/MSc/PhD theses and teaching, depending on departmental needs.
