The Institute for Planetology of the Universität Münster, Geological Planetology working group of Prof. Dr. Hiesinger, is seeking applicants for a

Senior Research Associate (Akad. Rätin auf Zeit / Akad. Rat auf Zeit (m/f/d, Bes. Gr. A13 LBesO))

The position will start on 01 July 2019 and will have a duration of three years. The successful candidate will be required to work 41 hours per week with a teaching load of 4 hours per week.

We are seeking candidates who will be responsible for the systematic processing of planetary data sets, support research and teaching within the working group, and maintain/develop strong individual research interests.

The Institute participates on numerous missions to the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Vesta, and Ceres and thus has proprietary team access to these data. The Senior Research Associate will process these and other data accessible through NASA’s PDS and ESA’s PSA to support group ArcGIS mapping and analysis projects. The successful candidate will also maintain the computers/servers (Linux and PCs) of the working group, develop and maintain data depositories, and supervise students (BSc, MSc, PhD) in the IT laboratory.

Prerequisites for applying are a university degree in geosciences; a doctoral degree, preferentially in planetary geology; excellent teaching skills; and academic achievements demonstrated by a good record of scientific publications. In particular, the candidate should be familiar with the chronology of the planets, geologic mapping, and geological processes. Additionally, candidates should have good English skills (written and oral) and at least basic knowledge in german language. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in data processing and manipulation in Linux, with ISIS3, ArcGIS, and data bank software and will have developed his/her own strong research profile.
