The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland includes nine schools with more than 12’000 students. We are looking for you to join the School of Life Sciences, Institute for Ecopreneurship, in Muttenz, Switzerland, at the earliest possible date:
PostDoc Speciation of selenium in reducing environments

Beschreibung

Your tasks: Selenium (Se) is an essential trace element with considerable impact on animal and human health. Since different Se species have contrasting environmental fate (e.g. redox stability, reactivity, mobility, efficacy), elucidating Se speciation is crucial both for risk assessment / remediation as well as for increasing efficacy in animal feed / human nutrition. Methodologies to analyse oxygen-labile Se species, specifically at ultra-traces and in complex matrixes, are still in their infancy. The main objective of this post-doctoral position is to build on and further develop such methodologies. You will make use of our state-of-the-art in-house speciation / mass spectrometry infrastructure (LC-QQQ-ICP-MS, Q-TOF LC/MS, SPME-GC-MS). The experiments are done on laboratory models and on environmental samples. It will also be part of your remit to assist in acquiring further funding (for yourself and/or for further PhD students) in the broader field of trace metal speciation. The position is limited to 2 years (1+1; fully funded by SNF). The salary is according to SNF regulations.

Anforderungen

Your profile: You hold a PhD degree in analytical/inorganic chemistry, bio-/geochemistry or a related field and have a proven track record in hyphenated techniques / mass spectrometry and/or selenium speciation. Successful funding applications (either as applicant or co-applicant) are an asset. Your skills in oral and written English are excellent. The ability to work independently and in a target-oriented manner rounds off your profile.
