The MEET Battery Research Centre at the University of Münster is seeking to fill two posts of a

Research Associate (wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in)
half-time (0.5 fte)
Salary Level 13 TV-L

This fixed-term post is available for a three-year period. Currently, the regular hours for half-time employment are 19 hours and 55 minutes per week. The possibility of a doctorate is given.

The scope of duties includes:

  • Synthesis of high-capacity cathode materials (lithium-rich layered oxide materials) for lithium ion batteries using precipitation (wet) and solid state methods
  • Fabrication of electrodes and electrochemical characterization of the synthesized cathode materials in coin, Swagelok® and pouch cells
  • Characterization of cathodes in powder and electrode form with SEM, XRD, (XPS, ICP-OES) and BET
  • Optimization and improvement of cycling performance of the cathodes in lithium metal and full cells against graphite and silicon anode materials
  • Analytical investigation of the interface between cathodes and electrolytes and aging mechanisms
  • If applicable, development of new synthesis routes for different morphologies and scale up

The following requirements must be met:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry or materials science
  • Sound knowledge in the fields of inorganic chemistry, crystallography and synthesis
  • Familiar with different electrochemical (LSV, CV, CC/CV, EIS etc.) and surface characterization methods (SEM, XRD, XPS etc.)
  • Experience in electrochemistry and research on lithium ion batteries is favored
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and OriginPro
  • Very good command of both spoken and written English
  • Capability to work both independently and cooperatively
