Once again, a great many students will be starting their degree program at the University of Bonn in the coming weeks. For many of them, it will also mean getting to grips with a new city. With the First-Semester Students’ Welcome, the University says hello to its new students and supplies them with a wealth of information and advice so that they can find their way around the University, their department and the city of Bonn. The celebrations will be rounded off with a big party.

The event begins at noon in the main auditorium of the University Main Building, when the Rector of the University, Professor Michael Hoch, will extend an official welcome to the students. He will be joined on the podium by four of his Rectorate colleagues: Professor Andreas Zimmer, Vice Rector for Research and Early-Career Researchers; Professor Irmgard Förster, Vice Rector for Equal Opportunity and Diversity; Professor Klaus Sandmann, Vice Rector for Teaching, Learning and University Development; and Professor Annette Scheersoi, Vice Rector for Sustainability. Also in attendance will be the President of the General Students’ Committee (AStA), Janna Reif, as well as many other people who will be talking about what they do. Because of the sheer size of the audience last year, this year’s opening ceremony will be streamed live in several lecture halls and the inner courtyard.

It will be followed at 1 pm by the info market in the Arkadenhof in the University Main Building, where various University and student organizations will be on hand to introduce themselves. They will be accompanied by the departmental student bodies, who will be happy to provide the students with some initial guidance in their new subject.

Meanwhile, guided tours of the University Main Building and activities arranged by University Sports will give them the opportunity to meet some of their peers and get to know their new home. The day will be rounded off with a party in the main auditorium and the Arkadenhof from 6 pm to 11 pm.
