The University of Bonn has further advanced in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking 2025, now ranking 89th worldwide-up two slots since last year. In Germany it improved as well, climbing one slot to fifth place, in the company of the country’s other leading institutions like Technical University of Munich, the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the University of Heidelberg and Humboldt University of Berlin.

"Our competitive environment, both nationally and internationally, is quite tough" noted University of Bonn Rector Professor Michael Hoch. "These results reflect our constant efforts to promote cutting-edge research and excellence in teaching at our University."

Versus the rest of Germany the University of Bonn improved in three of the five ranking categories, scoring best for "Research Quality" and "Teaching". Internationally the University of Bonn performed best in the "Research Environment" category, competing against 2,092 institutions from 115 countries, including 50 German universities in the rankings.
