The university came in at number thirty-nine in Europe according to the survey published on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, by the higher education consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Ltd. The university’s commitment to promoting networking within the international scientific community was a major factor in its success.
The German universities with the best scores were the Technical University of Munich (rank eleven), followed by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (rank seventeen) and Heidelberg University (rank twenty). Technische Universität Berlin (rank forty-four), RWTH Aachen (rank fifty-five), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (rank fifty-six), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (rank fifty-eight), Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (rank seventy-seven), and Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg (rank seventy-nine) are also among the best ten universities in Germany. The top three universities in Europe are the University of Oxford, ETH Zurich, and the University of Cambridge.
The regional ranking uses a number of different performance metrics, including a university’s academic reputation, research output, the faculty to student ratio, graduate employability, the international faculty member ratio, the international student ratio, the extent of international networking (measured by joint citations with international partner universities), the number of incoming and outgoing exchange students, and sustainability.
